Powderhorn artists, Lacey Prpic Hedtke and Kevin Loecke, wanted to think beyond conventional art venues for a show when hosting their friends, New York based  Non Solo, on their coast-to-coast art tour. So they recruited groups of artists around South Minneapolis to open their front porches, backyards, living-rooms, garages, trees, and even a bedroom for a highly imaginative and engaging experience over Memorial Day weekend. A Backyard Art Expedition showcases DIY art and community

This weekend, artists in south Minneapolis will be opening up their garages, backyards, porches, and balconies to visitors for a community-based DIY creative tour that includes visual art, beer-brewing demos, aerialists in trees, food, movies, music, a zine library and mobile, stuff for sale, gardening, a puppet show, and the karaoke Art Shanty. Titled Constellation: A Backyard Art Expedition, the event celebrates the way art is an integral part of our daily lives, neighborhoods, and self-made communities.  [more…]
